Each carriage includes changing tables, fold-down child seats, individual power sockets with USB-C and 3-pin plugs, large foldable tables, and dedicated phone shelves. These enhancements aim to serve a wide range of passenger needs.

HS2 high-speed trains will be manufactured in the UK

Train body production will begin once the design phase is complete. All major stages — design, assembly, and maintenance — will take place within the UK, creating jobs and supporting domestic manufacturing.

In 2021, a consortium of Hitachi Rail and Alstom received an order for 54 trainsets. These units will operate under a new Class 895 designation. Capable of speeds up to 360 km/h, the trains are designed for both HS2 high-speed lines and conventional tracks. They feature low noise levels and advanced energy efficiency technologies.

Initially, the London–Birmingham segment was scheduled to launch in 2026. However, the opening has been pushed back to between 2029 and 2033. In June, Transport Minister Heidi Alexander indicated that even this revised timeline may not be realistic due to ongoing project complexities.

HS2 remains the UK’s largest infrastructure initiative. It aims to improve regional connectivity, reduce congestion on existing lines, and boost economic growth through local manufacturing and job creation.
