A fleet of 8 three-car trains now runs along the line at a 15-minute interval.
The contract for the supply of rolling stock and signaling systems was signed with a consortium comprising Ansaldo STS, Tata Projects, and CRRC in 2014, with the Chinese company’s share amounting to $48.7 million.
The rolling stock was delivered to the city in 2019-2020.
Each 64.6-meter-long train can accommodate 1.1 thousand passengers, including 150 seating places, and has a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
Construction of the line, managed by the state agency CIDCO, began in 2011, with completion initially planned for the end of 2015. However, the project faced challenges due to contractors and later encountered delays due to Covid-19 restrictions.
