The Austrian manufacturer of railway equipment has opened a new production facility covering an area of 7,600 square meters in Chesapeake, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

This facility is equipped with four overhead cranes, each weighing 50 tons, and four access tracks. The total investment in the project amounted to $32 million.

These investments are part of a larger program valued at $52.6 million aimed at more than doubling the company’s manufacturing capacities in the USA.

Within the framework of this program, old production facilities were modernized, warehouses were improved, and a new office building was constructed.

The first railway machines from Plasser & Theurer appeared in the United States in 1957. Subsequently, the subsidiary Plasser American was established, which has been based in Chesapeake since 1970.

At present, an average of 40 railway machines are produced there annually, employing over 375 employees.

Over the years, the company has supplied more than 2,500 railway machines to the North American market, of which 1,800 were assembled in the USA.
