PKP Intercity Signs Contract for the Modernization of 40 Carriages

PKP Intercity has entered into contracts with H. Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych for the modernization of 26 Z1B series carriages and 6 Z1B PRM series carriages, as well as with PESA Mińsk Mazowiecki for the modernization of 8 Z1A type carriages, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
Upon completion of the contracts, the vehicles will be equipped with numerous amenities aimed at enhancing passenger comfort.
Railway Transport of Semi-Trailers
The tender procedure for the modernization of these 40 carriages was divided into three parts.
The best offer for the modernization of 26 second-class Z1B carriages and 6 Z1B PRM carriages, designed for wheelchair users, was provided by H. Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych, based in Poznań. For the modernization of 8 first-class Z1A carriages, PESA Mińsk Mazowiecki was selected.
PKP Intercity has signed agreements with the manufacturers for the project, with a total value of approximately 270 million zlotys.
All 40 modernized carriages are expected to be delivered to PKP Intercity within 36 months from the date of the contract signing.
These vehicles will be adapted for speeds of up to 200 km/h, enabling the use of the carrier’s modern locomotive fleet and the upgraded railway network in Poland.
