PKP Intercity is extending its contract with NEWAG for the supply of 10 multi-system electric locomotives and ordering an additional 5 locomotives, according to the railway portal Railway Supply.

Thus, the rolling stock of the carrier will be comprised of a total of 15 modern locomotives with a speed of up to 200 km/h.

The total value of the order amounts to nearly 388 million zlotys.

Chronology of the railway accident in India

The contract with Newag is part of the largest investment program in the history of PKP Intercity, worth 27 billion zlotys.

The contract, signed in October 2021 between PKP Intercity and the rolling stock manufacturer NEWAG, involved the purchase of 10 new multi-system electric locomotives with an option for an additional 5 units.

The national carrier exercised the option right and decided to extend the procurement for an additional 5 locomotives.

As a result, the contract value increased from 258.6 million zlotys to nearly 388 million zlotys.

The first acquired locomotives will be put into service between 2023 and 2024.
