Manila officials in the Philippines announced a potential contract termination on March 6, 2025. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) evaluates ending its deal with BF Corp.-Foresight now.

Philippines Transportation Hub Stalls

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the stalled Unified Grand Central Station site this week. He confirmed that construction stopped over a year ago, sparking immediate concern.

Dizon and his legal team actively explore finalizing the contract termination to progress swiftly. They aim to finish the overdue project and ease public frustration, he stated.

Delays disrupt the station designed to connect LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 lines for commuters. Initially, planners set an earlier deadline, but 2028 emerges as the new target.

BF Corp., linked to the late Bayani Fernando, clinched the construction deal in 2019. Yet, obstacles like the pandemic halted progress, leaving materials rusting and untouched.

Scattered metal and idle gear clutter the site, frustrating drivers and pedestrians every day. Dizon highlighted that barriers push walkers into crowded detours, complicating their routines.

Motorists encounter similar issues because construction blocks roads and slows traffic significantly. Consequently, the DOTr presses to resolve the chaos and restore order soon.

Philippines Seeks Swift Resolution

Officials insist that Filipinos deserve a working station, not delays or excuses from contractors. Thus, ending the deal might ignite new momentum, Dizon argued boldly.

Completion of this key hub promises smoother travel across Manila’s busy rail network shortly. However, success depends on restarting work quickly and dodging further setbacks.

Dizon stressed that inaction no longer works, given the rising inconvenience for citizens daily. So, the DOTr pledges firm action and a clear strategy moving forward.

The Unified Grand Central Station remains vital to Manila’s transit future plans ahead. Authorities hope a fresh start delivers results and benefits commuters without delay.

Public patience runs low, and officials recognize the need to act fast in the Philippines. Therefore, DOTr’s next steps could transform transportation in the capital dramatically.
