The Philadelphia transit agency has canceled a major order for trains manufactured by CRRC China, as the company was more than four years late and failed to deliver any cars, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority terminated its contract with the American subsidiary of the Chinese railcar manufacturer CRRC for the supply of 45 double-decker commuter rail cars, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The contract was signed in 2017, with the first cars slated for production in 2019, but none were delivered.
The $185 million contract was awarded to CRRC when the company had yet to deliver any rolling stock to North America but had firm orders in Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
SEPTA’s locomotive cars, the first CRRC commuter rail cars for North America, were supposed to have 130 seats and were intended to alleviate overcrowding issues on SEPTA’s commuter lines since 2000.
