The contract between the Polish company PESA and the Romanian Railways has been finalized in Bucharest, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

PESA's contract with the Romanian Railways for the supply of trains

Resulting from tender procedures conducted throughout the year by the Romanian Railway Reform Agency (ARF), the contract involves the delivery of 20 Inter-Regio (REIR) class trains, with the option to extend the order by an additional 9 units.

The project’s implementation is financed by the Romanian KPO fund.

Key representatives of the transportation sector, including Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu and ARF President Stefan Adrian Rozeanu, participated in the contract signing ceremony.

The importance of this agreement for the modernization of Romania’s rolling stock and the further development of railway transport in the country was emphasized during the ceremony.

These newly acquired vehicles will be the first modern trains delivered by the Romanian Railways in two decades, capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h. They will feature 192 seats in 1st and 2nd class, barrier-free operation systems, and will be powered by a 25 kV AC traction network, equipped with the Romanian PZB 90 safety system.

As part of the contract, PESA will also provide 15 years of support for the supplied trains, collaborating with CFR Calatori to establish local service centers.

It’s worth noting that PESA has been supplying trams to the Romanian market since 2012, and its presence in external markets consistently grows as part of the Pesa 2030+ development strategy.
