PESA will bring a hydrogen locomotive to Hel!
17.09.2023
In the coming days, PESA will reach Hel twice. Interestingly, a similar trip took place a month ago and was unofficial, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
PESA Bydgoszcz has prepared two special train journeys powered by the hydrogen locomotive SM42-6Dn.
The first trip will take place on Sunday, and the second one will be part of the TRAKO 2023 railway exhibition.

“We have planned two trips to Hel, the first of which we organized on Sunday with Orlen for the media, with a focus on education, promoting green energy, hydrogen, and ecology. The most important for us will be the trip during the TRAKO 2023 railway exhibition, where we have invited representatives of the railway industry and partners. We want to show that hydrogen-powered railway vehicles are an ideal solution for regional and intermodal transport,” said Maciej Gżeshkowyak, Director of Strategic Projects at PESA Bydgoszcz.
It’s interesting to note that a similar trip was already undertaken a month ago for testing purposes.
“The trip to Hel with a hydrogen locomotive during TRAKO is a celebration for us, the culmination of three years of work on the first Polish rail vehicle powered by hydrogen,” added Maciej Gżeshkowyak.
On Thursday, the train is scheduled to depart from the Gdynia Główna station at around 13:50.
It’s worth recalling that in June of this year, the Railway Transport Office issued a certificate for the hydrogen locomotive from PESA. This is the world’s first homologated hydrogen shunting locomotive.
