Pesa Delivers New Gama 3.0 Locomotives for Polish Rail Sector

Pesa has secured a new contract with Rail Capital Partners for the supply of five next-generation Gama 3.0 electric locomotives, with delivery scheduled for 2026. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The order, funded under the European Union’s “Next Generation EU” plan, will support intermodal transport. RCP currently operates 66 locomotives, 56 of which are first-generation Gama units.

Pesa Expands Gama 3.0 Platform for Freight and Passenger Use
Gama 3.0 introduces a modular platform adaptable for both freight and passenger use. It allows easy installation of diesel or battery modules, supporting last-mile operations with minimal downtime.
Pesa designed the new platform to boost flexibility and meet rising demand for sustainable rail transport. The ability to switch modules in a matter of days offers significant operational advantages.
Pesa Faces Delays in PKP Intercity Hybrid Locomotive Delivery
At the same time, Pesa is assembling two hybrid Gama 3.0 locomotives for national operator PKP Intercity. The $140 million contract includes 16 units and was signed in 2022.
The first unit was expected by April 2025, but both Pesa and the client confirmed delays. No new delivery timeline has been provided as of now.
This hybrid concept was initially part of the Gama 2.0 project introduced in 2022. However, the design evolved and was rebranded as Gama 3.0 to reflect new market needs.
Pesa aims to offer energy-efficient solutions as part of broader fleet modernization efforts across Europe. The latest order confirms its position in the competitive rail manufacturing sector.
