Pesa delivers first interregional electric train for Romania

Pesa has developed the first interregional Romanian electric train, which is set to be sent in October to a test station at Făurei. The production is under a 2023 contract.

Manufacturing and technical features
The train was developed on the Regio160 platform (series RE-IR2) and is designed for operation on 25 kV AC rails. The train operates at 160 km/h and accommodates 192 seats in first and second class.

Contract and delivery schedule
Romania, under the agreement, is scheduled to receive 29 trains by the end of 2027. The deal, with 15 years’ maintenance, costs €317 million, but it is dependent on the manufacturer with regard to the final schedule of deliveries.
Other Pesa projects in Romania
The company is also synchronizing another order for 62 regional trains. The first ones have been rolled out and are currently undergoing testing in the country. Therefore, clearance for passenger operations is attainable by the end of the year.

The test on the first train is scheduled in October, and it shall be in commercial operation after finalizing certification procedures.
