CBTC technology enables shorter intervals between trains and minimizes delays caused by track circuit issues. These changes aim to enhance the efficiency and reliability of Tokyo Metro for its millions of users.
CBTC Testing and Development on the Marunouchi Line
Initial CBTC tests began in 2018 on three stations of the Marunouchi Line. Mitsubishi Electric provided critical onboard and ground communication equipment to ensure successful deployment of the system.
In early 2024, Tokyo Metro expanded testing to include CBTC integration with 5G technology. Collaborating with Hitachi, RTRI, Mitsubishi Electric, and NTT Communications, Tokyo Metro leads public transport innovation in Japan.
CBTC improves train scheduling and enhances passenger experience by providing a smoother and more reliable service. This upgrade represents a new standard for urban transportation efficiency in Tokyo.
Future Plans for Tokyo Metro’s Technological Advancements
Tokyo Metro continues investing in advanced technology to modernize its infrastructure and improve passenger convenience. CBTC is a key milestone in the city’s journey toward smarter urban transit solutions.
By reducing delays and enhancing operational efficiency, the system offers safer and more comfortable travel. Tokyo Metro sets a global example for cities aiming to improve their public transportation systems.
