According to PATCO, the $19.4 million center is now PATCO’s central operations hub. It is used to monitor and manage PATCO operations. Also, it supports communications, customer service coordination and incident response across the passenger railroad’s system.

The center will be used to oversee PATCO’s full transit-rail system. The system includes 14 stations. It carries 5.9 million riders a year between southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Operations control center scope

“In many ways, this facility is the nerve center of the system,” PATCO General Manager John Rink said in a press release. “Every train movement, communication and operational decision runs through this building.”

The new site includes a modern operations control room. It supports train dispatching and rail operations supervision. In addition, it adds improved communications and monitoring systems. It provides consolidated workspace for several PATCO transit departments.

PATCO officials said the facility is designed to support ongoing modernization work. It is also intended for future system improvements. At the same time, it is designed to improve coordination. The coordination involves operations, maintenance, customer service and response teams.

Camden tower becomes secondary center

The Lindenwold center replaces the original center tower operations facility in Camden, New Jersey. That facility dates back to PATCO’s opening in 1969. Still, that Camden tower will now function as a secondary operations center.
