Passengers Advised to Prepare for Twyford to Henley Rail Disruption
21.07.2025
Passengers traveling between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames next week should plan ahead because essential rail upgrades will close the line and extend journey times significantly for all travelers. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Network Rail will replace 100 meters of track, sleepers, and ballast to enhance safety and reliability. Engineers will also perform structural surveys and remove overgrown vegetation during the scheduled maintenance work.

The route will remain closed from Monday, July 28, to Friday, August 1. Replacement buses will operate between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames, and passengers can check full details at gwr.com/upgrade before traveling.

Jason Pankhurst, Network Rail program director, confirmed that crews will work continuously to finish on time. He thanked passengers for their patience while upgrades ensure smoother train services for years to come.
Passengers Offered Alternative Travel Options
Passengers will also benefit from several travel alternatives to minimize disruption. GWR will provide bus connections between Twyford and Shiplake via Henley. Valid season tickets will be accepted on the Marlow–Maidenhead branch line for onward journeys.
In addition, ticket holders can use the 850 Carousel bus service operating between Henley and Twyford. These options are designed to maintain connectivity during the five-day closure period.
Passengers Urged to Plan Ahead for Delays
GWR warned that these temporary arrangements could increase travel times considerably. So, travelers should plan ahead, allow extra time, and prepare for possible delays when using road-based transport options.
By carrying out these essential works now, Network Rail aims to maintain a reliable and efficient service. This investment supports long-term improvements, reduces potential future disruptions, and improves the passenger experience across the route.
