A contract for the delivery of 34 partially double-decker Alstom trains was signed in 2018 between Alstom and Luxembourg’s national railway company CFL. The total cost of the agreement is €400 million, and the delivery is scheduled to be completed by 2026. These trains offer 334 seats in each three-car configuration, and with the multiple-unit system, they can combine up to three sets, increasing the capacity to 1,000 passengers.

Speed and Innovations of Partially Double-Decker Trains

Alstom Coradia Stream HC trains can reach speeds of 200 km/h, allowing passengers to travel quickly and comfortably. This feature is particularly important for daily commuters and travelers on busy routes.

The trains are equipped with the GoA2 automatic train operation system, providing partial automation while still requiring a driver on board. These trains represent the future of Luxembourg’s railway system, offering both speed and comfort.

The partially double-decker Alstom Coradia Stream HC trains also play a crucial role in Luxembourg’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Running on electricity, these trains offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional diesel trains and help the country move towards a greener future.

Modernization of the railway system is a core component of Luxembourg’s transportation strategy, focusing on sustainability and efficiency.
