A major milestone has been reached in the development of Mumbai’s Panvel-Karjat Railway Corridor. Spearheaded by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), 67% of the construction is now complete, ensuring the ambitious deadline for December 2025 remains achievable. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The corridor spans 28.3 kilometers and aims to enhance Mumbai’s suburban railway network significantly. This project, sanctioned under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III), is designed to meet rising commuter demands and bolster connectivity. The total cost is estimated at ₹2,782 crore, making it one of the city’s most transformative infrastructure initiatives.

Land acquisition, a critical step for this project, has already been completed. Authorities acquired 56.82 hectares of private land and 4.4 hectares of government property successfully. Notable engineering achievements include the excavation of 3,100 meters of tunnels and the completion of 2 million cubic meters of earthwork. Structural work on the project is also progressing efficiently.
To date, six major bridges and 29 minor bridges have been completed from the planned 47. Additionally, four Road Over Bridges (ROBs) have been constructed, with significant progress made at Mohape and Kirawali. The underpass at Pune Motorway is operational, though minor finishing tasks remain.
Modern stations are under development at Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat. These stations will feature updated platforms, administrative buildings, and foot overbridges. Once completed, this railway corridor is expected to revolutionize the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s connectivity.
By reducing travel times, the corridor promises substantial convenience for daily commuters. Its advanced infrastructure will play a vital role in addressing the city’s rapid urbanization and economic growth. Authorities continue to emphasize progress through robust planning and efficient execution. This ambitious project underlines India’s commitment to world-class infrastructure development.
