According to the contract with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), valued at 873 million rupees (approximately USD 10.5 million), the Chinese manufacturing site will handle the design, production, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the equipment for two metro lines. The contract duration is set at five years.

The project involves equipping stations with 70-meter-long platform screen doors designed to accommodate three-car trains.

Each platform will be fitted with 12 sets of doors. The contractor is also responsible for the supply and installation of all necessary mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment, including integrated panels for manual door control.

The contract includes the provision of concrete or metal foundations, supports, anchor fastenings, as well as the installation of workstations, servers, and specialized software for diagnostics and control systems.

For testing and commissioning, the contractor will provide all necessary tools, keys, utilities for maintenance, and spare parts.

Additionally, the contract ensures the supply of extra spare parts during the warranty period.

A key part of the agreement is the company’s obligation to provide testing equipment and technical support.

Amid the extensive development of the Chennai Metro, the second half of 2024 is expected to be significant, with the delivery of the first driverless train from Alstom Transport India Limited.

This project involves the supply of ten three-car trains, totaling 2.69 billion rupees (USD 32 million). The contract for the train supply was signed at the end of 2023, with a completion period of 28 months.

Passenger safety on Chennai Metro platforms remains a pressing issue.

Given the population density of the Chennai metropolitan area, which exceeds 12 million people, the need to install platform screen doors is an evident measure.

Equipping stations with such systems will minimize the risk of passengers falling from platforms and enhance overall safety in one of India’s largest cities.

According to statistics, such measures are a crucial part of ensuring safety in the metro systems of major metropolises. The growing number of passengers in Chennai requires not only the expansion of transport infrastructure but also the adoption of advanced technologies aimed at protecting the lives and health of citizens.
