The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan rail initiative. This regional project could transport up to 15 million tons of freight each year, offering a new trade route between Central and South Asia.

Digitization and Innovation Key to Pakistan Railways Reform

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi presented progress on the 2025–2030 modernization agenda. This includes a nationwide e-ticketing expansion and upgrades to the “Rabta” mobile app for better user service and digital accessibility.

The plan also focuses on transparency and efficiency, with new digital tools streamlining internal operations. These reforms aim to boost customer satisfaction and restore public trust in the system.

Pakistan Railways to Launch High-Speed and Urban Rail Projects

The government is advancing plans for high-speed corridors and urban commuter lines. Punjab’s cabinet has endorsed a multi-billion-dollar high-speed rail link between Lahore and Rawalpindi to drastically cut travel time.

These infrastructure upgrades are expected to attract private investment and improve intercity mobility. Officials also plan to develop suburban networks to ease urban congestion and improve daily commutes.
