Ottawa gave residents and tourists a unique chance to explore the new O-Train Trim Station this weekend during Doors Open Ottawa, which also included rare access to historical landmarks and public buildings. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The event allowed visitors to step inside Ottawa institutions that are usually closed or ticketed. Highlights included the Royal Canadian Mint, the Ottawa Art Gallery, and the Lemieux Island Water Treatment Plant.

But the upgraded Trim Station was a major draw. Though not yet active, the newly finished station opened for public tours led by OC Transpo conductors. Visitors also boarded stationary trains for an inside look.
“This station is the easternmost stop on the extended Line 1,” said OC Transpo’s Katrina Camposarcone-Stubbs. “We’re thrilled to see the Ottawa community so engaged and excited for service to begin.”
Trim Station will become the final stop once the O-Train Line 1 extension from Blair Station goes live. Officials haven’t confirmed a launch date, but OC Transpo previously indicated service could start this fall.

The station tour was part of a broader celebration of civic access. Doors Open Ottawa included dozens of locations, blending heritage architecture with transit development and infrastructure education.
Alongside transit stops, the city spotlighted science and culture. At the Dominion Observatory, guests joined guided walks and used a telescope for celestial viewing. The venue debuted in this year’s lineup.

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe visited several venues throughout the day. “Ottawa’s strength lies in our openness,” he said. “This weekend, people entered places they usually only pass by, gaining insight into our shared city.”
He also praised volunteers for helping make the event a success. Doors Open Ottawa concluded on Sunday, leaving attendees with deeper knowledge and appreciation of the capital’s spaces and services.
