19.08.2024
August 19, 2024, marked an important event for the transport system of New South Wales, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
New metro lines officially opened in Sydney, stretching from the northwest of the city across Sydney Harbour and the central business district to Sydenham.

These 15.5 kilometers of underground lines include six new stations and new platforms at Central Station and Sydenham Station.
The new section is part of the extended M1 Northwest & Bankstown line, now covering 51.5 kilometers and connecting 21 stations between Tallawong and Sydenham.
The remaining 13 kilometers of the M1 line will be opened after the modernization of 10 existing stations on the T3 Bankstown line.
This metro extension will enhance connectivity between the city’s business, financial, and commercial districts, providing access to Barangaroo on the harbor’s edge and offering the first rail station in this area.
The first passenger train departed under Sydney Harbour at 4:54 a.m. from Platform 1 at Sydenham Station.
From today, the entire metro network will operate on a weekday schedule: trains will arrive every four minutes during peak times and every seven minutes during off-peak hours. Over the coming weeks, off-peak service frequency will increase to every five minutes.
Each day, 445 trains will run on the new metro line, accommodating about 34,000 passengers per hour during peak times and significantly reducing the load on the existing transport network.
Additional staff will be present at all stations and on trains, and audio and video assistance points will ensure communication with the Metro Operations Control Center.
Although all stations are open, some are still under construction, which will not affect passenger services.
New buildings above the Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Gadigal, and Waterloo stations are still under construction and will open as work progresses.
The new Turn Up And Go metro services offer the fastest routes from northern Sydney to the central business district: the trip from Chatswood to Martin Place takes 11 minutes, and the journey from Sydenham to Tallawong takes less than 60 minutes.
