Modern fiber optic lines ensure reliable communication and data transmission along the route. The production of 2.6-meter-long reinforced concrete sleepers is organized in Tindouf, where a new facility was opened in 2024.
Technical Characteristics of Western Railway Mining
The railway spans 1,650 kilometers, connecting the Gara-Djebilet ore deposit with the port of Oran. The route includes 12 stations, and the railway network covers five administrative regions with a population of about two million people.
The project includes not only a new railway line but also the reconstructed Oran–Béchar section, which is 700 kilometers long. As part of modernization efforts, railway automation and telemechanics systems have been upgraded.
The railway is expected to operate ten pairs of trains daily, including eight heavy freight trains for ore transportation and one passenger train. Heavyweight trains with a mass of 22,100 tons and 170 wagons will be hauled by four locomotives.
