One of the software developers for Russian Railways leaves the Russian market
25.04.2022
The manufacturer of software for business process management, the German company SAP, has finally decided to leave the Russian market.
It is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Reuters.
“The SAP group plans to withdraw from Russia completely, in response to the invasion of Ukraine,” the news agency reports.
According to SAP CFO Luka Muchic, the German developer does not provide any support or updates to sanctioned customers.
However, according to him, the complete cessation of work may take time. “There is no magic red button that SAP can push to make these software licenses disappear from computers,” said Luka Mucich. So Russian users will be able to continue to run its software, but without support and updates.
It is reported that SAP’s business in Russia, where the company has been operating for more than 30 years, brings only a small part of global revenue – less than 1.5%.
SAP said it will focus on managing the impact of its exit on more than 1 200 employees in Russia.
The company announced the termination of sales of new products in Russia in early March. At the same time, its competitor Oracle Corporation also announced its exit from the Russian market.
According to Kommersant, the systems of these companies are used by almost the entire Russian industry, energy, transport and other industries. Among major SAP clients in Russia are Gazprom, LUKOIL, RZD, Rosatom.
In particular, the main carrier of the aggressor country, Russian Railways, uses automated ERP systems for managing personnel, finances and enterprise resources based on SAP developments – ASUFR and ASUTR.
