Crossing safety upgrades at Kugler Road

At the Kugler Road grade crossing, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio authorized improvements. Indiana & Ohio Railway Co. will install flashing lights and gates. The short line must complete the work by Feb. 13, 2027.

Indiana & Ohio Railway is owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc. It operates more than 500 miles of track. The short line interchanges with eight railroads. They include CN, CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway.

Federal funds will cover $408,631 of the crossing project’s cost.

Also, PUCO evaluates public rail crossings across Ohio to determine whether active warning devices are needed. Since the commission began conducting crossing safety reviews more than three decades ago, Ohio has seen a significant decline in annual train-motor vehicle accidents.
