Ohio Central Railroad rail crossing upgrades are moving ahead in Dresden, Ohio after the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved federal funding for safety work at a local grade crossing, as reported by Progressive Railroading.

PUCO said it approved federal funding last week for safety upgrades at the grade crossing where State Route 208 meets Muskingum Avenue in the city of Dresden, Muskingum County. Also, Ohio Central Railroad (OHCR), a Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) railroad, must install flashing lights, gates, curbs and sidewalks at the crossing by Nov. 18, according to the commission’s press release.

Federal funding for safety upgrades and project cost
Separately, PUCO officials put the total cost of the upgrades at $201,606. At the same time, federal funds will cover 80% of the project, while OHCR will pay the remaining $40,321.
Ohio Central Railroad track and interchange connections
The OHCR operates 71 miles of track, as listed in G&W’s Ohio Central Railroad (OHCR) profile. Meanwhile, it interchanges with the Columbus & Ohio River Rail Road in Morgan Run and Zanesville, Ohio; CSX in Columbus, Ohio; Norfolk Southern Railway in Columbus and Goulds, Ohio; the Ohio Southern Railroad in Zanesville; and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway in Harmon, Ohio, also shown in the OHCR railroad overview (PDF). Genesee & Wyoming acquired the railroad in 2008.
