New Trams of Budapest: Features and Capacity
These trams ensure accessibility for passengers with limited mobility. A five-section tram carries up to 326 people, while a nine-section one holds 562 passengers.
The trams first appeared on route 51A in the city’s historic district. Thus, they improve service quality and convenience for Budapest residents.
Operator BKK will receive two more trams in April 2025. Full delivery will conclude by late 2026, and the share of low-floor trams will rise.
Currently, low-floor trams make up 30 percent of the city’s fleet. After the project, their share will increase to 40 percent, enhancing the transport network.
BKK’s fleet includes 320 trams, serving an extensive tram system. Daily, it transports about 930,000 passengers, and modernization boosts comfort levels.
Impact of New Trams of Budapest on the City
Transport upgrades draw attention from residents and city authorities. Because they meet eco-friendly standards and accessibility needs for all citizens.
Introducing CAF trams strengthens Budapest’s reputation in transport development. And it highlights successful collaboration with the EU and global partners.
Passengers already praise the convenience of modern trams on city routes. However, the operator keeps improving services and expanding the network.
The project matters to Ferencváros, where transport upgrades were long awaited. So, residents gain modern conditions for daily commuting across the city.
Delivery timelines are set, and CAF fulfills its commitments actively. Project completion in 2026 will mark a milestone for the capital.
Modern trams offer high capacity and meet accessibility standards fully. Therefore, they suit Budapest’s densely populated areas and its residents perfectly.
The city’s tram system ranks among the world’s largest networks. And fleet upgrades increase its appeal to tourists and locals alike.
Operator BKK aims to fully modernize the network in coming years. Meanwhile, CAF trams speed up this process, delivering reliability and comfort.
