Northern Rail Offers Major Student Discount on Season Tickets
19.07.2025
Northern Rail has launched a significant student discount on season tickets, helping families save money for the 2025–2026 academic year with flexible travel options across Northern and TransPennine routes. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The campaign targets parents and guardians of children under 16, encouraging them to choose trains for school commutes. This initiative offers savings of up to £588 on annual tickets purchased before August 1.

Early Bird Discount for Students
Families buying tickets before the deadline will receive a 50% discount, ensuring maximum value for daily travel. After this date, purchases still come with a 40% reduction, while term-time passes become available for added flexibility.

Northern and TransPennine worked together to improve convenience for customers. Education season tickets now remain valid on both networks across key northern routes, providing students with easy and affordable commuting options.
Why Take Advantage of the Discount Now?
Alex Hornby, Commercial and Customer Director at Northern, highlighted the company’s mission to make travel accessible and simple. He urged parents to act quickly because bigger savings will end by July’s close.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to attract more young passengers and strengthen trust in rail transport. As families seek cost-saving solutions, these offers could significantly influence travel choices for the next academic year.
