The Economic Times cited a Northeast Frontier Railway release. The release said the system uses advanced Inertial Measurement Unit sensors and GPS technology. It will monitor railway track conditions with high accuracy. The release described it as a plug-and-play, fleet-wide onboard vibration IMU-GPS event camera system. Also, it can be installed on locomotives and coaches without major modifications.

How the rail safety camera system will monitor tracks?

The system also uses event-based camera technology. It can identify and analyse track abnormalities in real time. This will enable continuous mapping of defects across the railway network. Also, it will generate real-time alerts. Those alerts allow immediate responses to potential safety risks.

The collaboration is aimed at using IIT-Guwahati’s research expertise. It is intended to develop a scalable and cost-effective solution, as PTI reported. The technology is also expected to support predictive maintenance and condition-based maintenance. It will reduce dependence on manual inspections. In addition, it will help prevent failures before they occur.

Northeast Frontier Railway said the initiative will improve operational efficiency, reliability and passenger safety. In addition, it supports the broader vision of data-driven and technology-enabled infrastructure management.
