Norfolk Southern scholarship applications are open for the 2026 Thoroughbred Scholars program. Also, it supports the children of NS employees pursuing higher education or technical training.

Thoroughbred Scholars program details

According to Norfolk Southern, applications must be submitted by April 20. In addition, scholarship funding can be used toward undergraduate degrees at accredited two-year or four-year colleges. Meanwhile, it can also be used for vocational-technical programs lasting at least one semester. Separately, as Progressive Railroading reported, NS has awarded nearly $4.5 million in scholarships since 2022.

At the same time, Norfolk Southern will provide 100 renewable scholarships. Also, each scholarship is worth $2,500 annually for as many as four years. In addition, the company will offer three annual scholarships of $10,000. Meanwhile, those awards apply to students pursuing science, technology, engineering and math fields.

Also, they apply to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Still, they also apply to students demonstrating “exceptional community leadership,” officials said. Separately, the proposed merger between Union Pacific Railroad and NS will not affect existing or newly awarded scholarships.
