The 386,000-square-foot facility includes climate-controlled storage, 13 overhead cranes, and 18 indoor rail spots. This setup allows for faster, more efficient transfer of steel, cement, lumber, and other bulk materials.
Chuck Marias, spokesperson for Great Lakes Reload, highlighted the importance of Norfolk Southern’s role in driving demand. “Companies are prioritizing logistics agility and cost savings,” he said. “Transloading delivers both with speed and scale.”
Norfolk Southern Supports Efficient, Sustainable Freight
Norfolk Southern enables businesses without rail access to tap into cost-effective long-distance shipping. Transloading reduces reliance on trucks and slashes emissions by up to 90%, according to company estimates.
This environmentally responsible method not only benefits clients financially but also aligns with corporate sustainability goals. Rail logistics are quickly becoming the preferred solution for bulk freight.
By enhancing the capabilities of Great Lakes Reload, Norfolk Southern strengthens its position in the competitive U.S. freight market. The company is committed to scalable, eco-friendly infrastructure and continues to adapt to evolving shipper needs.
With transloading services on the rise, Norfolk Southern aims to further boost volume while maintaining efficient, client-centered operations. Investments in rail-linked logistics promise long-term returns and measurable carbon savings.
