Nightjet services face changes as ÖBB ends Paris route
01.10.2025
ÖBB confirmed that Paris services by Nightjet will close by December 2025, since subsidies will be pulled by France, but the operator will widen its new-age fleet and reinforce other late routes.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

End of Paris route of Nightjet but Brussels connection persistent
The French Ministry of Transport decided to stop funding Paris connections, so ÖBB cannot continue the Vienna and Berlin services. And since cross-border trains require subsidies, the routes became unsustainable.

ÖBB stressed that not all international connections will vanish. The Brussels-Vienna Nightjet will keep operating three times weekly, and other nocturnes to Amsterdam and Rome will continue to operate, safeguarding the broader European network.
Long-term growth assured with Nightjet investment
ÖBB invests in 24 new-generation Nightjet trains to be comfortable and capacity-orientated. The units will upgrade existing routes and underscore the operator’s long-term optimism about the overnight railway business.
Industry observers note that French exit reflects structural issues within Europe, since night trains rely on political cooperation and financing. But ÖBB aligns its schedules with corridors having healthy demand and stable financing.
So despite setbacks, the company strengthens its leadership in sustainable mobility. Because travelers increasingly choose rail over short-haul flights, overnight services will remain essential to Europe’s transport strategy.
