Grand Paris Express Line 18 Pushes Sustainable Mobility Forward

NGE’s affiliate TSO is building a 9-kilometer stretch connecting Versailles, Guyancourt, and Montigny-le-Bretonneux. Construction entails double-track laying, third-power wiring, and linear installations like walkways and cable paths.

Engineers will also fit in a 200-meter cut-and-cover stretch at Saint-Quentin Est station. As this stretch links major residential and industrial areas, it will boost daily mobility for western Île-de-France commuters and local industries.

The plant employs low-carbon rails made from electric arc furnaces, not from blast furnaces fired with coal. Emissions are lowered by approximately 1.455 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent for every tonne of steel and is made from 95% recycled materials.

Grand Paris Express Reinforces NGE’s Leadership in Urban Tramways

TSO Vice President Gilles Philibert stated that the agreement is in favor of NGE’s decarbonized mobility plan. Constructing infrastructure that incorporates cleaner transport right away, he continued, is both a technological successes and an ecological obligation.

By signing this agreement, NGE is now in charge of 23 contracts of the Grand Paris Express program. Its established track record encompasses activity on Lines 11, 17, 16, and 15, and on the RER E (EOLE) extension opened in 2024.

Line 18 will connect Paris-Saclay, the world’s newest innovation center, with the business district of Orly-Rungis. The line will connect more than 65,000 learners and 70,000 employees with faster, cleaner transport that decreases automobile usage and inter-regional emissions.
