Newag to supply hybrid trains for PKP Intercity

Polish operator PKP Intercity has signed a contract with Newag for the delivery of 35 hybrid trains, totaling 3.36 billion zlotys, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The trains will consist of 6 cars, with a diesel engine for use on non-electrified sections and a speed of up to 120 km/h.

They will also be equipped with the ETCS safety system and provide seating for 178 passengers, including spaces for individuals with limited mobility.
This purchase will help optimize the company’s expenses, according to the chairman of PKP Intercity.
The new trains will be the first hybrids in the carrier’s fleet.
The first 2 trains will be delivered within 30 months of contract signing.
News complements Newag’s contract list, including the delivery of 63 multisystem electric locomotives and 9 four-car electric trains Impuls2.
