MTA’s latest purchase includes 435 new R211 subway cars as part of its modernization plan. This order features 355 closed-end cars and 80 open-gangway models designed for enhanced comfort.

R211 cars include advanced accessibility options, security systems, and improved door designs for faster boarding. These enhancements directly support the MTA’s mission to modernize New York’s subway system.
MTA officials confirmed that these upgrades will improve reliability and reduce breakdown rates. Riders on the A, C, N, Q, and W lines will experience smoother commutes with the new fleet.
