The Russian government has adopted a transport strategy by 2030 with a forecast for the period up to 2035. As part of the strategy a fourfold increase in the speed of movement of non-raw materials is predicted (up to 1,000 km/day) using container trains.

This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Railinsider.

“We will increase the carrying capacity of the railway infrastructure in the eastern direction (Eastern range), Azov-Black Sea and north-western. The aggregate increase will be from 197 to 327 million tons, depending on the economic situation,” said the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev.

In addition, it is noted that the strategy for the first time highlighted a block for digital transformation (transfer of shipping documents into electronic form, digitization of infrastructure), and also significant attention is paid to achieving the normative state of the network.

According to Russian Railways, in January-October 2021, 5 million 386 of loaded and empty TEU containers were transported in all types of traffic. This is 12.7% more than in the same period in 2020. At the same time, transit increased more – up to 889 thousand TEU (growth – 1.4 times).
