New Railway Stations in Southwest England to Boost Connectivity
20.07.2025
Two new railway stations are set to transform connectivity in southwest England, improving access to rural towns and reducing car dependence. Government-backed investment of about £45 million will fund their construction, with services expected by 2026. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
These stations will benefit more than local communities. Travelers from London and other cities will enjoy easier journeys because both will connect to Exeter St David’s, a key transport hub. So, passengers gain direct links to London Paddington, Plymouth, Bristol, and Cornwall.

Railway Stations to Improve Regional Access
The project opens gateways to some of the southwest’s most scenic areas. Cullompton sits near the Blackdown Hills, a protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers easy access to Killerton House, Sidmouth, and Dartmoor, perfect for outdoor adventures.

Wellington, across the Somerset border, connects visitors to the Quantock Hills and Exmoor. Travelers will also find hidden trails, authentic farm shops, and traditional pubs, making the region a prime destination for countryside escapes and cultural experiences.
Railway Stations Drive Economic and Sustainable Growth
Local businesses anticipate growth as visitor numbers rise. Stronger links to urban centers will create opportunities for jobs and education. And because both towns sit on the Exeter–Taunton main line, integration with existing routes should be seamless.
Authorities also view the project as a key step toward sustainable transport. By 2026, travelers will replace car trips with fast, direct rail options, cutting emissions and easing road congestion. With funding secured and plans finalized, construction is ready to begin.
