Expanding the UK Rail Network for Greener Logistics

This move marks another milestone in Maritime’s continued investment in intermodal freight infrastructure and reflects its strategy to support a shift from road to rail.

New routes improve access to inland terminals, cut transport-related emissions, and offer more sustainable alternatives for major logistics corridors in the UK.

“Freight by rail plays a vital role in lowering emissions and driving our economy,” said Julie Garn, Intermodal Director at GB Railfreight. “These services offer a practical, greener alternative for the wider supply chain.”

John Bailey, Managing Director – Intermodal at Maritime, added that London Gateway’s growth, fueled by the Gemini Cooperation’s Asia–Europe trade, required stronger inland links. “The expanded rail network meets increasing demand and supports more efficient national distribution,” he stated.

Strategic Rail Collaboration to Handle Growing Demand

The new services align with the UK’s decarbonization goals and help reduce pressure on road freight by offering reliable rail-based connections to key industrial regions.

As Maritime and GBRf deepen their cooperation, the UK logistics sector gains additional capacity and flexibility to manage surging volumes and shifting market demands.
