New intermodal link between Germany and Italy
14.04.2023
TX Logistik has announced a new expansion of its intermodal network with the Duisburg-Padua link linking Germany and Italy. The rail logistics company scheduled to start operations on May 2, with four round trips a week. Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to RailwayPro.
The connection, which transports cargo trailers with all types of cargo, will be operated as an open train system.
The main customer is the Italian transport and logistics provider Trans Italia, headquartered in Salerno. All services related to the new connection will come under the control of TX Logistik.

The route runs from Germany through Switzerland to Italy, to Padua in the Veneto region. There, Interporto Padova operates a state-of-the-art rail terminal, where approximately 275,000 TEUs are handled annually between road and rail. In Germany, a combined transport terminal is operated at the logport III site in Duisburg-Hohenbudberg, operated by TX Logistik together with two partners, Ziel Terminal GmbH.
In March, TX Logistik AG, Samskip and duisport signed an agreement to jointly operate the terminal in Duisburg through the newly formed Ziel Terminal GmbH. The establishment of the company is still at the stage of approval by the European competition authorities.
The Duisburg-Padua connection is important to TX Logistik as part of the company’s plans to expand its European network. The city of Padua is located just 25 km from Venice, from where you can use the cabotage connection with the Balkan states. At the same time, Veneto is Italy’s third most important export region and Germany is its main trading partner. According to TX Logistik, this opens up good opportunities to move more goods from road to rail.
