New CAF Metro Trains Begin Service in Naples
03.11.2025
A new series of CAF trains has been introduced in the port city of Naples, representing a significant step in enhancing the line of trains running on Line 11 in this particular city.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Naples Upgrades Its Metro Under CAF Contract
Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) has already introduced three CAF Inneo trains of six cars each, with a further seven expected in service by the end of 2026.

Each train, measuring 107.7 meters long, has a carrying capacity of 1,200 people, including 130 seated passengers.
CAF has included full gangways, places reserved for people with wheelchairs, as well as sophisticated systems that ensure the comfort of the train commuters. This is indicated by the interior fittings that feature effective lighting, air conditioning, as well as environment-friendly technologies that will help in curtailing the emission
This contract came after signing a deal in 2020 for four trains, as well as an option to purchase a further six trains. This agreement had a total value of €100 million, including a three-year maintenance contract, of which €60 million was contributed by the Italian government through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Naples Strengthens Trust in CAF and Invests in Sustainable Mobility
This is a continuation of a collaboration that started in the year 2017, where CAF delivered a total of 24 Inneo trains to serve in the Naples Metro network. At the beginning of this contract, a train had to be withdrawn temporarily due to a software failure of the compressor system.
CAF solved this problem by updating the software in the satellite. This new fleet is running smoothly, which marks the progress of CAF’s technology as a whole. This initiative will help Naples improve the public transportation system in the city by enhancing headways as well as lowering CO₂ emissions.
This initiative is relevant to the EU mobility framework as it aims to ensure efficient as well as environment-friendly urban mobility in Southern Italy. Passengers will benefit from greater comfort, safety, and reliability, while as a whole, the system is a sign of renewed faith in the latest railway technology.
