Network Rail will invest £1.4 million to repair Longport Station’s footbridge, starting July 26 and continuing until September 14, delivering safer access and better lighting for passengers. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The project includes repainting the bridge and installing improved lighting to enhance visibility. And because the footbridge will remain closed, passengers will follow diversion routes, which may add up to nine minutes to their journey.

Meehan expressed gratitude to the local community for their patience during construction. “By fixing the footbridge and upgrading lighting, we make the station safer for years to come,” she said, highlighting the project’s value to passengers.

Network Rail and East Midlands Railway advice for travelers

East Midlands Railway also urged passengers to plan extra time. Philippa Cresswell, the company’s customer experience director, said travelers should allow additional minutes because of temporary diversions between platforms.

She added that these essential improvements will significantly enhance safety and passenger comfort once complete. “We appreciate your understanding during this period,” she noted, assuring customers that the work will deliver long-term benefits.

So, while passengers may face minor delays over the next several weeks, the improvements will create a safer, more reliable station. Network Rail emphasized that the investment strengthens Stoke-on-Trent’s transport network for the future.
