A spokesperson for the company said, “This is a vital investement to provide long-term reliability and safety to one of Britain’s most busiest rail corridors.” Engineers will fit over 130 new track panels and deliver 12,500 tonnes of new stone foundations.
They will also rebuild portions of the track bed to lessen maintenance expense and enhanced ride comfort. “Some panels of the track are even pre-assembling off-site to conserve time,” a spokesman said. “Specialist plant will lift and install the new rails with extreme accuracy across both sides of all four lines.”
They are part of Network Rail’s wider £196 million modernization plan aimed at enhancing efficiency for freight and passenger services.
Network Rail Enhances Passengers and Freight with Improvements
Milton Keynes and Wolverton station upgrades will be done concurrently. Authorities clarified that Christmas was specifically planned that way due to less traffic as passengers are less during that time, registering less hindrance during work.
Locals in the area surrounding the railway can anticipate night work and freight deliveries. “We understand this work will be noisy on a temporary basis,” stated the spokesman, “but it will provide several generations with more consistent, quieter, and safer service.”
West Coast Main Line is linking London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow and is a vital artery for Britain’s economy. Network Rail explained that these temporary disruptions would lead to smoother running, less breakdown, and a fitter infrastructure for the long term.
