Ukrainian Members of Parliament are concerned about the inefficient use of grain wagons by Ukrainian Railways
08.12.2023
Members of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine have expressed concern over the inefficient use of grain wagons by the Ukrainian Railways, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This was discussed during a meeting on December 7th, where the impact of Russian aggression, port blockades, and altered shipping routes on Ukraine’s agricultural sector was highlighted.
The dissatisfaction with uncertainty and responsibility in railway logistics has significantly intensified the effects of economic shocks.
The committee revealed that in 2022, agricultural producers overspent 6 billion UAH on domestic railway logistics for grain and approximately 30 billion UAH on excess transport.
Consequently, the rising logistics costs have led to the greatest losses in the agricultural sector since the beginning of the war.
The committee has decided to address the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine and Ukrainian Railways to gather information on the effectiveness of using rolling stock for logistical transportation of agricultural products for further export.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian Railways would auction off 2,500 grain wagon shipments starting next week.
