Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat Express: route, stops and fares

Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat Express services have been expanded after Indian Railways extended the existing Chennai–Vijayawada Vande Bharat corridor to Narasapur in Andhra Pradesh.

The semi-high-speed run was launched on December 15, linking coastal Andhra Pradesh with Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with the return service from Chennai to Narasapur set to start on December 17, as reported by The Indian Express.
The Southern Railway zone said Train No. 20678 will operate from Narasapur to Dr MGR Chennai Central six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. Covering 655 km in 8h 55m, the train is positioned as a faster option for daily commuters, business travellers and tourists.

On the extended route, the service is scheduled to halt at Renigunta Junction, Nellore, Ongole, Tenali Junction, Vijayawada Junction, Gudivada Junction and Bhimavaram Town. These stops keep the corridor connected to both major junctions and smaller hubs along the way.
Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat timetable
As per the timetable, the Chennai-bound train departs Narasapur at 2:50 pm and reaches Dr MGR Chennai Central at 11:45 pm. The return service from Chennai to Narasapur is scheduled to begin on December 17—leaving Chennai at 5:30 am and arriving in Narasapur by 2:10 pm.
Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat fare and seating capacity
The Narasapur–Chennai Vande Bharat Express is offered in two seating classes, with fares of Rs 1,635 for AC Chair Car and Rs 3,030 for Executive Chair Car. Total seating capacity is 530 passengers, aligning the service with a premium travel experience that combines modern amenities with a quicker end-to-end run.
Vande Bharat Express services were first introduced in February 2019; Railway Supply has also noted the 2019 start of the programme in its coverage of the wider network. Developed by Indian Railways, the semi-high-speed trains include features such as automatic doors, reclining seats, GPS-based systems and onboard Wi-Fi.
According to Jagran Josh, Indian Railways had launched 150 Vande Bharat Express trains as of November 2025, and each 16-coach train costs about Rs 115 crore to build.
