The reconstruction of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur multimodal terminal has commenced in Austria
31.01.2024
The extensive modernization project focuses on the freight terminal in Wels, strategically positioned at the intersection of key transportation routes, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The 68 million euro upgrade, supported by the EU, includes extending the length of four crane tracks to 700 meters, expanding storage areas for containers and swap bodies, creating a zone for horizontal transfer of truck units, and connecting to the Vienna–Salzburg rail line.
This initiative aims to transform the terminal into a transit station, with administrative and service buildings relocated to make space for the project.
The completion of the reconstruction is scheduled for 2027.
