Crews will fully reconstruct the Williams Bridge and Woodlawn stations. Each will receive two elevators—one per platform—to ensure ADA compliance and enhance accessibility for all passengers.

MTA Accessibility Enhancements Target Williams Bridge and Woodlawn

Utility relocation has already started at Woodlawn. Both platforms at all three stations will be replaced and fitted with a snow-melting system to prevent winter buildup and increase safety.

Platform foundations and piers will be rebuilt to modern standards. Stairways will be replaced entirely, and platform extensions will support more flexible boarding options.

The MTA will carry out work at all three locations concurrently. Each station will remain open for boarding, as innovative construction phasing allows for uninterrupted passenger access.

MTA Keeps Stations Operational During Simultaneous Upgrades

Long-term track outages will support the project timeline. However, service will continue at every platform throughout construction without major disruptions to regular commuters.

These stations are key hubs for Bronx residents. They connect to subways, NYC Transit buses, and the Bee-Line bus service, offering routes to nearby Westchester County.

Metro-North President Justin Vonashek highlighted that thousands use these stops daily. The upgrades reflect the agency’s broader goal of building a more inclusive and efficient transit network.

A specific cost estimate for the project has not yet been announced. However, the investment underscores MTA’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure modernization across its service area.

By targeting high-traffic locations in the Bronx, the MTA is making significant improvements that prioritize both accessibility and safety while maintaining reliable service for all riders.
