This new railroad will provide enhanced connectivity for the Mount Vernon port, which processes 25,000 rail cars annually. The port is investing $25 million in a 500-acre megasite to support industries such as steel, automotive, and plastics, aiming to attract large multimodal industries that rely on barge and rail transportation.
Mount Vernon Railroad Enhances Regional Connectivity
The Mount Vernon Railroad will facilitate smooth rail connections and assemble outbound trains for interchange with the Evansville Western Railway. This collaboration provides direct access to major railroads such as BNSF Railway Co., CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway, and Union Pacific Railroad.
Economic Growth Driven by Mount Vernon Railroad
Indiana Secretary of Commerce, David Adams, highlighted the importance of the new partnership with OmniTRAX. He stated, “This partnership offers great potential for fostering business growth and attracting new investment to the southwest Indiana region.”
The Mount Vernon Railroad will significantly improve the region’s logistics infrastructure. This development will enable the port to meet growing demands, improve efficiency, and support continued industrial expansion.
