Morocco railways achieve record-summer ridership. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The kingdom saw more than 14 million railway passengers this summer amid robust demand and rising train travel confidence. Increased service and new capacity were emphasized by the National Railways Office (ONCF) as the key in managing the spike.

Throughout the stations, train movements, and maintenance depots, ONCF staff ensured smooth operations, convenience, and security amidst intensified movements. In this way, the railways solidified their status as a stable pillar of transportation in one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies.
Service changes accomodate Morocco’s transport future
From September 15th onwards, ONCF will initiate an integrated service plan for temporary changes stemming from the Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed line project. Certain lines will incur longer travel times, while the station of Mers Sultan will close provisionally.
In addition, ONCF will also renovate Trains Navette Rapides (TNR) and Al Atlas trains. A new Safi–Casa Voyageurs service will make daily trips while the Taza–Fès corridor receives additional departures in a bid to increase the convenience of commuters.
The Transport and Logistics Ministry and the ONCF also opened the new Taza railway station. The $5 million project adds to the network of Morocco and brings in newer facilities such as a grand reception hall, commercial space, and parking space for over 70 cars.
At the same time, links to Al Hoceima are improved by SUPRATOURS buses for improved regional access. The improvement reflects continuation of initiatives towards the integration of the country’s road and rail facilities.
Increasing connectivity and passenger experience
Additional TNR services will also run along the El Jadida–Casa Port line at approximately 7:00 p.m. and at new locations along the Casablanca–Rabat line. These projects expand access for long-distance travelers and day-to-day commuters.
ONCF emphasized that such adjustments are intended for the enhancement of regional links, better traveling comfort, and the preservation of smooth service even during construction interferences. The upgrades also reinforce railways as a core mobility enabler in Morocco.
