A long-term development plan, approved in 2011, aims to fully modernize the metro by 2040. These upgrades will help encourage residents to shift from private vehicles to public transportation.
Environmental Impact of Metro Modernization
Metro Modernization supports sustainability by reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting environmentally friendly urban transportation. The project aligns with global ecological goals and Baku’s green initiatives.
By 2026, the metro will receive 65 new railcars, with 35 arriving by year-end. These modern trains will provide greater comfort and reliability for passengers while enhancing service efficiency.
