The update also points to the scale of operations at the Lalganj Raebareli coach factory in Uttar Pradesh, which officials describe as one of India’s most advanced passenger coach manufacturing units. In the financial year 2025-26, the ministry said, the plant has produced 1,310 coaches so far.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Built for ₹3,192 crore, the facility was set up in 2007 and is designed for an annual capacity of 1,000 coaches; the Modern Coach Factory’s official website also outlines the location and basic plant details. Officials said the factory sits about 3 km from Lalganj on the Kanpur–Raebareli Road and around 85 km from Lucknow.

Modern Coach Factory Raebareli production record

MCF rolled out its first fully in-house coach in August 2014. Since then, annual output has risen steadily—from 140 coaches in 2014-15 to a record 2,025 coaches in 2024-25, the highest in the plant’s history; Railway Supply also references that figure.

The Railway Ministry credited the 15,000th coach milestone to the dedication and collective efforts of the MCF team, adding that the target was achieved within a relatively short period.

AC and Non-AC coaches in the 15,000-coach tally

Out of the total coaches manufactured at Modern Coach Factory Raebareli, 7,000 are Air-Conditioned (AC) coaches and 8,000 are Non-Air-Conditioned (Non-AC) coaches, the ministry said.

The factory’s output spans a wide range of rolling stock, including Humsafar, Tejas, Antyodaya, Deendayalu, Bharat Gaurav, Brake Vans, Parcel Vans, Track Recording Cars, Economy Coaches, Demo Locomotive and Hold Coaches for Mozambique, and MEMU coaches, among others.

Quality standards and passenger travel focus

The Railway Ministry said all coaches have been manufactured in strict compliance with prescribed quality standards, aimed at ensuring safe, reliable and comfortable travel for passengers.
