Madrid Metro to Automate Line 6: Platform Screen Doors, New Technologies, and Investments
12.08.2024
Madrid Metro is set to begin automating Line 6, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Madrid Metro has announced a tender for the installation of platform screen doors at stations along Line 6 as part of a project to automate train operations.
The project aims to reduce the interval between trains to two minutes.
Platform screen doors will be installed on 70 platforms, covering a total length of 6.4 kilometers.
The total investment for the installation of the doors amounts to 100.7 million euros.
The doors will be transparent, have vandal-resistant coatings, and be designed to prevent passenger entrapment during boarding and alighting.
The contract is expected to be signed in the fourth quarter of 2024, with work scheduled to begin in mid-2025.
Automating Line 6 is a crucial step in enhancing the efficiency of the metro system.
This line is the busiest, serving 90 million passengers in the first half of 2024.
The platform screen doors will be equipped with displays providing information on the arrival time of the next train, potential delays, and other data.
These doors will also improve station safety and prevent unauthorized access to the tunnels.
Currently, Madrid Metro’s network comprises 13 lines with a total length of 293 kilometers, none of which operate in an automated mode.
