The Tbilisi City Hall will not have to pay for the termination of the contract with Metrowagonmash
30.05.2023
The Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, stated that the city administration will not be involved in the dispute with the Russian company Metrowagonmash regarding the supply of metro cars
The contract has been terminated, and all procedures were carried out with the participation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), according to the railway magazine Railway Supply, citing the ТЖД.
Kaladze noted that they will discuss the purchase of new cars with the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance, and in the near future, they will announce a new tender for the procurement of metro cars.
He also emphasized that the City Hall will not have to pay for the termination of the contract. As Metrowagonmash was subjected to sanctions, the contract was terminated.

The City Hall will not participate in the dispute because it was a tender announced by the EBRD and conducted in accordance with their rules, added Kaladze.
Earlier, the authorities of Tbilisi began the process of canceling the contract for the purchase of 44 metro cars for the Tbilisi Metro, which were supposed to be supplied by the Russian company Metrowagonmash (part of TMH).
The decision was made due to international sanctions imposed on the company for the production of military products.
A two-stage tender was announced by the EBRD in February 2020. In December 2021, Metrowagonmash became the winner of the tender.
The cost of purchasing 44 new cars was €49.19 million, and the delivery was supposed to be completed within 36 months.
However, in March, the EBRD suspended payments to the factory under the contract for the acquisition of rolling stock for the Tbilisi Metro.
